Toys, imma right?!
They are great entertainment for our kiddos, but often can be a source of chaos in the home. We dream of having that play “room” where you can shut the door when things get crazy, but that’s not always the case. Often, we have clients who have a play “space” in their common living areas.
This particular client is a mom who is doing it all, finishing a master’s degree and preparing for a new school year as a teacher, all while taking care of her toddler who is home for the summer.
Can you relate?!
This client was becoming overwhelmed by the toys in her living room. She wanted her toddler to have their own place to play, but when it was time for company to come over, she wanted the space to be more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
We started by taking measurements of the space and brought in new furniture. This is the Kallax from Ikea, which comes in many configurations, providing flexibility and is cost-effective, which is a bonus! We assembled this furniture for the client and brought it to her home.
We edited the toys with the client, getting rid of anything broken or toys that her child less frequently uses.
We then sorted the toys into categories and placed each category in a bin and labeled the bin. Creating a system where every toy has a designated home is a practical approach to reducing clutter and maintaining a tidy(ish) space. This approach not only addresses the issue of toys overwhelming the living room but also encourages the child to learn responsibility and organization as they grow older. It’s important to involve them in the process and gradually teach them where their toys belong.
