We had to pick our jaws up off of the floor when looking back at these before and after pictures.
This bathroom did not have any systems in place. It had become an area where our client would throw things into the cabinet or closet and then just shut the door. It had become an overwhelming space for our clients where they were not able to find the things they needed.
We started by categorizing the items in the bathroom. Some of our categories included makeup, medications, oral care, backstock, etc. We got rid of anything that was expired, broken, or empty. Once we had all of the trash and expired items out of the bathroom, we brought the client back in to go over each category with them to further purge items that did not need to be incorporated back into the bathroom.
Once we had everything edited, we created a system under the sink that housed items that our client used every day. To incorporate what would work best for our client, we used products that could be placed on the sink as the client was getting ready in the morning and then put them back under the sink so they had a clean surface during the day. We used drawers on the bottom and bins on top. The drawers have the option to be pulled completely out to accommodate our client.
We then created a system in the closet for items the client needed but did not need to use daily. The more frequently used items, we put in a system behind the door.
Our favorite part of this bathroom was when the client asked us where we thought she should put her iron that was in the bathroom. We suggested the laundry room. While in theory, this is a good suggestion, our client informed us that they only iron clothes on the bed. In unison, our organizers then said “Your closet!” Our client told us that another organizer she used in the past told her that only clothes and shoes could go into her closet.
At Tidyish, we do not impose rigid organizing “rules” and instead allow our clients to have the final say. Every client has unique organizational needs, and tailoring the approach to suit their lifestyle is the key to long-term success. By involving our clients in the process to consider their preferences and habits and incorporating systems that are easy for them to maintain, we empower our clients to keep their spaces tidy(ish) and organized even after our work is done.
