Moving to a new home and downsizing can be challenging, but it’s also an opportunity to declutter and start fresh! That’s exactly what we did for our clients in Richmond, Virginia. We helped them in their current home prior to their move. We brought our team in to use our Tidyish approach to get their current kitchen and pantry ready for the movers to bring to the new house. We then unpacked these items in their new home, and the results were amazing!
Let’s break down this specific project:
Sort and categorize: We began by sorting through all of the kitchen and pantry items in their current home prior to moving to the new home. We grouped similar items together.
Purge expired, duplicate, or broken items: We checked expiration dates on these items and got rid of anything that was expired. We also donated any duplicate items, as well as items like Tupperware that no longer had a lid.
Assess storage needs: We evaluated what needed to be brought into the new house after sorting and purging. We then took measurements of the pantry and kitchen in the new house to bring in products that would fit the space perfectly for years to come.
Contain and create zones: We used clear containers at eye level so you can easily see what you have. We love the warmth the hyacinth bins bring in, but we typically like to use these either really low or really high to contain things that you don’t necessarily need to see daily. By organizing the pantry into zones, our clients are able to locate items more efficiently, keep track of inventory, and ensure that everything has a designated place. It can also make shopping and meal planning easier by giving our clients a clear idea of what they have and what needs to be restocked.
Label everything: We used labels to clearly identify each category or item. Labeling makes it easier for everyone in the household to find and return items to their designated spots, maintaining the organization system.
Maintain the system: Encourage everyone in the household to follow the organization system and return items to their proper places. Regularly check for expired items and declutter as needed to ensure the system stays efficient and clutter-free. We also offer maintenance packages to our clients where we can come back to help you maintain a space. We offer one-time, quarterly, and monthly sessions!
