This project was so much fun for a busy family of four in Richmond, Virginia!
This was a multi-room project. We worked on the kitchen, pantry, and laundry/utility room.
For most of our projects, we focus on one particular area, but in this case, it was helpful that we were working on so many areas at once because it allowed us to identify and consolidate overlapping items and create more efficient storage solutions.
This was our approach:
Kitchen: We began by decluttering and organizing the kitchen. This involved donating duplicate items and getting rid of the things that were no longer wanted or needed. By doing so, we were able to create a more streamlined and efficient space.
Pantry: We focused on eliminating expired items in the pantry. This step ensured that food products were fresh and usable. It’s always a good idea to regularly check and discard expired items to maintain an organized and healthy pantry.
Laundry/utility room: Since the laundry room is adjacent to the kitchen, we utilized this space for various purposes. We created designated storage areas for backstock of paper products and less frequently used bulky appliances and cookware. Additionally, since the laundry room also housed cleaning supplies, we organized a space to accommodate everyday essentials while creating a separate area in the garage for storing backstock of cleaning supplies. This separation made it easier to access frequently used items while keeping surplus supplies readily available but out of the way.
We started in the kitchen where we donated duplicate items and items the clients no longer wanted or needed. In the pantry, we got rid of all expired items.
Since the laundry room is right off the kitchen, we created areas for backstock of paper products as well as an area for lesser-used bulky appliances and cookware. The laundry room was also the home of many cleaning supplies, so we were able to create space for what was needed for everyday use and then create an area in the garage for backstock of cleaning supplies.
This was another home where our client preferred to utilize their existing containers, also incorporating new items within a limited budget. We chose to source products from Walmart and Target, which are known for their affordability, as well as using a few higher-end items from The Container Store. This approach allowed us to strike a balance between cost-effectiveness and quality in the space.
By implementing these strategies across multiple rooms, we were able to optimize storage and create functional spaces that catered to this family’s needs.
